About
the outreach division
The
Natural Resource Education and Outreach Division is involved
in a variety of activities. These include educational venues
such as hosting the annual Festival of the River, hosting educational
restoration-hatchery tours, and visiting local high school and
elementary classes to teach salmon and watershed ecology. In
autumn 2006, over 500 students participated in our hands-on
tours of the Stillaguamish hatchery.
This year we also hosted four restoration events with over 100
participants from around the region.
Outreach
also involves meeting and consulting with landowners about land-use
and water quality concerns. We arrange riparian plantings and
help landowners apply for various government programs to assist
landowners conservation, such as CREP (Conservation Reserve
Enhancement Program). When appropriate we apply for grants to
compensate landowners who for various reasons cannot reap the
full economic value of natural resources on their land.
Finally,
the Tribe publishes a newsletter
highlighting deparmental activities.

Docent
for Hatchery Tours
Every
December the Stillaguamish Tribe Hatchery provides tours
to local students. Our tours provide six interactive and educational
stations to fifth and sixth graders. We will train volunteers
to lead 30 minutes sessions with students through the habitat,
the anatomy, and the water quality stations. This is a great
opportunity if you like kids and fish and the great outdoors!
Festival
of the River
We
can always use help at the festival! Click here for more information.
